SEO is a tool to help garner valuable organic traffic to your website, and if done well, it can save you a lot of time and money. We’ve put together a small SEO guide for beginner’s to help anyone starting out answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

1. What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation is the practise of growing visibility and improving rankings in organic search engine results. In plain language, it’s the processes you can use to help your brand climb to the top of search engine results.

2. What’s the difference between Paid and Organic traffic?

Organic results on say, Google, are the results that appear after you type in what you’re searching for. They are free, and which ones show first are based on an algorithm. Organic traffic is the number of visitors that get to the website from clicking on these results. Paid traffic is a measure of all the people that visit the site after clicking on links and ads that have been paid for.

3. Does Social Media help SEO?

Absolutely. Every time your brand is mentioned online, search engine bots take note. The more time the bots see your brand, especially in a positive light, the more relevant they believes it is. Search engines want to give their customers what they are looking for, so the more relevant the better. Social Media is one good way of backlinking.

4. What is backlinking?

A backlink is a hyperlink that links from a web page, back to your own website. Like we mentioned in the social media question, this is a case of relevance. If other sources are directing traffic to your website, search engines can trust it is up-to-date and useful.

5. What are Focus Keywords?

The Focus Keyword is the word you’d like your page to rank for. When people type this word or phrase into a search engine and your site comes up; they should be able to find exactly what they are looking for.
