Revenue Management or Life and Expectation Management?
Its been too long and bad for search results when one delay content updates!
Anyhow we have been busy, and busy with the wrong things.
Â
- Our time were taken up by reactive management instead of looking ahead.
- Our time was wasted on checking whether the in-house guest’s rate is indeed correct
- We were busy pacifying slow selling partners that didn’t follow sound advice
- We were busy trying to get feedback from partners on unresolved issues and a lack of cooperation
- We were busy walking guests as we all forecasted to be full but ended up being a few %ages below 100 occupancy
- and busy justifying our existence as an ‘agent’ without brick and mortar
We were busy with things that we couldn’t change..
Â
Whilst all this was happening, we didn’t quite take control of things we could change:
Â
- Some high demand dates came and went
- Valley periods remained unsold
- Winter’s slow trading arrived much faster than usual
- Owners wants meetings and updates more frequent which we missed in some cases
- Managers and operators joined the queue and they too were declined at times
In addition there are trade shows to be attended, product launches, proposals to be submitted, business development and motivating the team whilst being a (fairly good) parent and partner.
…To top it all off I embarked on a body recompositioning going from 23% body fat to 5% and show ready in 8 months, with me being 3 weeks out to my first bodybuidling competition as I sit and type here.
Balance they say… or do I use this patform to whine and justify my productivity?
We are all in this together and nobody is getting out alive – as the famous quote go.
Revenue, expectations and managing one’s life are all really the same thing.
Juggling wants vs needs, ensuring your corporate partners are as happy as they can be, doing your best to meet expected results are like posting revenue sale journals on life’s income statement and measuring how far we are off versus our budgets. (and doing it smiling in worst of times)
All-in-all we are here for you, and on your side because we want to be.
At some point we added value and unfortunately we are all only ‘as good as our last show’. We certainly aren’t one-trick ponies and will impress sooner than later..
…permitting demand-supply, flights schedules, ZAR exchange rate, micro/macro environmental indicators, North Korean missile tests, ………..
